Does Texting While Driving Cause Wrecks?

Most of us couldn’t put food on our table if we couldn’t drive; without public transportation, we couldn’t get to work otherwise. Unfortunately, that means braving a few risks. We can, however, mitigate these risks somewhat if we abstain from certain behaviors while driving. Texting while driving can cause a lot of wrecks, so you should avoid it at all costs.

Why Not Text and Drive?

  • According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 1,600,000 crashes happen while one of the drivers uses their cell phone.
  • A study by Virginia Tech Transportation Institute stated that texting while driving created more danger of a wreck than driving intoxicated.
  • The Virginia Tech Transportation institute has also stated that distractions while driving take your eyes off the road for an average of 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that will take you across the length of a football field.

Driving requires a certain amount of focus that you just can’t give while looking at your cell phone. Here at American Engine Installations, we want to remind you to drive safe.
