Is Your Vehicle Ready for Winter?

We all know that cold weather can have a destructive effect on anything left outdoors. This includes your plants, pets, and even your vehicle! Cars often run into trouble during the winter months but many of those problems are avoidable with proper preparations. T oday we will go over a few tips that you can use to winterize your car!

Check Tire Pressure

One of the easiest things you can start off with is adjusting your tire pressure. If your tire pressure isn’t at the optimal levels, your tires may have trouble maintaining traction on icy roads. Colder weather tends to lower the pressure in your tires slightly, so plan on stopping by an air pump!

Check Fluids

Another thing you want to do is check your engine fluids, especially antifreeze. Nobody wants to deal with a frozen engine, or any frozen fluids. It is a good idea to have your fluids regularly in general, but as the cold weather comes on, it is particularly necessary.

Check Battery

Car batteries tend to take a beating during the summer, but the cold is what puts the last nail in the coffin, so to speak. This is why you’ll want to have your battery checked prior to the first freeze of the season. If not, you may end up stranded with a dead battery!

Pack a Kit

Nobody wants to imagine an emergency situation, but it is important to have a plan in place, just to be safe! Pack a bag with essentials to keep in your car. Include blankets, energy bars, water bottles, a map, batteries, a flashlight, flares, baby wipes, socks, and anything else you can think of that might keep you safe in case your car breaks down in the cold.
